Description: Wiñak is a Kichwa indigenous organization of approximately 250 cacao producers (70% women) in 29 separate communities in the Amazon foothills. Wiñak was legally established in 2010, however, the group has been working together since 2005. Headquartered in Archidona, an area surrounded with a mosaic of forests and farms, the many Kichwa communities maintain areas of communal forests. Cacao is typically incorporated into traditional indigenous organic agroforestry systems (chacras).
Wiñak's farmers were certified organic (by BCS-Öko Garantie) until 2012.
