Description: Following the work of the Salesian Catholic Mission of over 20 years in the Achuar territory, the Chankuap Foundation was founded in order to provide more sustainability, structure and a focus on community development to the mission's work. The Foundation has accomplished a productive network for crafts, plant and herb derived medicinal and cosmetic products, the latter with a brand that has increasingly been positioning itself in local and national markets (IKIAM).

Since its beginnings in 1996, the Chankuap Foundation has been working on the sustainable use of biodiverse products. The Foundation works in several areas: forest resource management, organic production, processing, marketing and an educational project in the city of Macas. Since the beginning, production has been managed with organic agricultural standards and most of products are certified organic. Wild harvesting is done under species-specific management plans. Species with management plans include guayusa, sangre de drago, ungurahua and ishpink. Chankuap has five product lines, namely agricultural products, essential oils, spices and tea, cosmetics and herbal medicines, and an artisanal line.
